Side impacts are one of the most common causes of serious injuries among children involved in car accidents. That is why BeSafe developed SIP+ — an advanced additional side impact protection system designed to provide even greater safety during every journey.

What is SIP+?
SIP+ is an additional protective element mounted on the side of the BeSafe child car seat. It is specially engineered to absorb crash forces and can reduce the load transferred to a child’s head and neck by up to an additional 20% in the event of a side collision.

How does SIP+ work?
SIP+ is attached to the side of the seat closest to the car door and works in two important ways. First, it reduces the distance between the child seat and the vehicle door, minimizing movement during a side impact. Less movement means lower forces acting on the child. Second, SIP+ functions similarly to a vehicle crumple zone by absorbing impact energy before it reaches the child.

Why is side impact protection so important?
Children are particularly vulnerable during side collisions because they sit higher in the vehicle and are less protected by the car’s structural metal components. Unlike the front of a car, the sides do not feature large crumple zones capable of absorbing significant crash energy.

For this reason, side impact protection integrated into the child car seat plays a crucial role in keeping children safe. All BeSafe seats are designed with energy-absorbing side structures and deep protective headrests. The additional SIP+ element further enhances protection by reducing forces affecting the child’s head and neck area by up to an additional 20%.

Tested safety performance
Independent crash tests confirm the effectiveness of SIP+. In the 2016 ADAC/Stiftung Warentest child car seat tests, three BeSafe models equipped with SIP+ achieved “Very Good” scores for side impact protection.

Combined with outstanding frontal crash protection, the BeSafe iZi Kid X2 i-Size achieved a historic safety score of 1.1 — the best result among 65 seats previously tested in its category.
